Slash & Screwing a Violinist

Weirdest Conversation EVER!

Hello My Children. Your Den Mother is here! It has been a lovely Sunday where I spent a goodly portion of the day playing with my nephew...and the night having one of the strangest conversations ever...

I have mentioned my newest obsession...Mr. Sexy-voiced Cumberbatch. One of Sherlock Holmes's hobbies, other than solving absurdly weird cases & shooting up cocaine, is playing the violin. During the drive home from my Mother-in-Law's, I mentioned I thought it would be fun to screw Sherlock while he's playing the violin...you know to test his vaunted concentration skills! But then Steve brought up the fact that it would probably be very difficult to have sex with someone playing the violin, with the arm moving around so much. We got into a discussion about what position would make it feasible... doggie and the reverse cow girl (with the guy lying down) seem the most likely. When we got home, I IM'd with James & Scout for a little while...I greeted them by asking them what they thought would be the best position to fuck a violinist...James used to play the violin, for those who didn't know. Note: He said playing the violin lying down would be too difficult. And I had apparently interrupted a conversation about writing male Slash fic. And thus I got into a conversation of who would be hot in a slash pairing, James Marsters for the win... Lord Scoot was particularly thrown by my ambush greeting. So thus two band names were created tonight! And I would like to know what do you, the viewers at home think...

Slash & Screwing a Violinist! or Ambush Violinist Fucking! Which is the better band name? The husband thinks that Slash & Screwing A Violinist sounds like an album name.

A HUMBLE REQUEST TO MY DEAR READERS: SAVE THE TAO!

(yes, I'm stooping to lolcats--that's where I'm at right now.)

Scoot here.

TTOS is in a bit of a pickle--here's the dealio:

As some of you know, the nerve center of operations for The Tao Of Scoot is a barely operational E-Machines desktop which I do not even own. It is the property of my roomie's brother--the only reason it's in the living room is so my roommate has access to it.

Well, the roomie got himself his own laptop. Which means the computer I'm using right this second will likely be no longer available--its owner plans on keeping it in his room.

This means the only access I'll have to this blog, to TR, and to my writing will be from my roomie's laptop while he's at work.

The issue here isn't so much the reduced access, it's the fact that my online activities have grown to a point where managing them through a third party's system is absurd.

I need, and indeed, the blog needs to have its own computer.

So, I turn to you, my dear readers:

I'm guessing most, or at least a large number of you, own your own systems. I was considering the fact that many computer owners upgrade their hardware and end up with outdated, but perfectly serviceable units taking up space in storage. And considering that most computers have next to no resale value, they'll likely do nothing but collect dust until they're eventually thrown out.

Does this situation sound familiar to anyone here? Got a working, but no longer necessary laptop or desktop system you're always tripping over?

Well, you could do me and the blog a great service by considering our need and sending it here!

I'll pay or reimburse all shipping and postage charges from anywhere in the world.

I wish I could give more in return. Just know that whoever does this will insure the continued existence of this little corner of cyberspace.

Post a comment if you think you can help, or if you have any other ideas...

I'd like to keep this thread open exclusively for those interested in donating or who would like to help in some other way. For general chitchat, use the threads below or above.

Thank you, My Friends,

Happy Birthday Smashy!

HI GEORGE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Here's Christina Hendricks!

Hey Colleen here! Well the DoctorSmashy that we all know and love turns 23 today. Yeah he's way younger than me and James and probably much cooler too. So if you stumble over here tonight, George, after a night of Birthday/Halloween debauchery, with friends, a hot French Chick, & random people, here's a picture of your favorite girl!

Your Guilty Pleasure

The definiton of a guilty pleasure is "something one enjoys and considers pleasurable despite feeling guilt for enjoying it. Often, the "guilt" involved is simply fear of others discovering one's lowbrow or otherwise embarrassing tastes, rather than actual moral guilt." (Thanks wikipedia).

I think in the case of nerd and geekdom, guilty pleasure works slightly different. In the general population, most people don't want to admit to liking obscure things. In the nerdy world, the more obscure and weird the interest is, the higher status of nerd you are, at least according to the uber nerds who feel that some nerd interests are worth more than others. I don't actually think this way, but I have noticed it in some communities.

Any example of this would be something main stream and accepted by the general audience. Batman is one of those things. You can like Batman and not be considered a nerd because Batman is so main stream with all its movie installments and cartoon series. You can be a Batman fan without even picking up a comic or trade. Batman is a house hold name.

But there are countless comic book heroes that are not.

So in our own reverse university, things that are obscure = cool. Liking main stream things, depending on what they are = not so cool.

I have a lot of guilty pleasures, and I don't mind sharing them with you at all. Maybe we can have a few laughs together. Maybe you'll feel comfortable enough to share yours. Remember though, it has to be something you wouldn't outright admit for the most part. There are a ton of things I love that I know aren't cool, but I am unashamedly into them, like unicorns. Damn I love unicorns. But some of this stuff, I wouldn't readily admit to my friends (except my bestie of course, she knows everything). Either way, let's get on with the show!

Little kid cartoons. I'm not talking Pokemon or Batman: The Brave and the Bold (though I love me some B:TBATB) which are generally directed to 8 and over. I'm talking about the cartoons meant for 5 year olds. It started in university when I was pulling all nighters. I couldn't find anything to watch except for this 24/7 children's programing channel. It had stuff on it like Dudley The Dragon, The Toy Castle, Ants in Your Pants, Bob the Builder and so forth. I would watch this starting at midnight and go all the way until 3 AM. I started watching it during the day. I sometimes still watch them, but the programming has changed. I'm not too big on Dara, Diego and the Backyardians which seem to be the big hits right now but every once and awhile, I turn it on and watch some of them.

Horrible catchy pop songs. When it comes to music, I don't really stick to one genre. If I hear something and I like it, I like it. Even if I don't like the artist, I don't care. I'm not really a fan of Katy Perry or Kesha but I do catch myself liking some of their songs. Not really into Lady Gaga but there's about 3-4 of her songs that I really like. I hate admitting that I sort of like that California Girls song. But there it is. Some pop stuff I enjoy.

Sleeping with stuffed animals. I know that collecting plushes really isn't a big deal with this community and I'm sure between all of us, we could open up a stuffed animal zoo, but at the age of 25 I still sleep with them. Not as many as I'd like because my bed isn't that big. When I was younger I would throw on all the stuffed animals I had, and in the morning they would have all fallen off. I have an insane amount of stuffed animals, and my mom and I keep adding onto my collection. I always sleep with my very first stuffed toy, a Cabbage Patch horse named "Rex" (My mom named him) that I got for my first Christmas. There's a picture of me somewhere with me getting him. Every night I tuck him between my arms before I fall asleep. I used to take him with me for over night stays elsewhere, but now that I'm older, and more scared to lose him now than anything, he stays at home. Even when I had boyfriends stay over, I'd have him with me. I admitted to one boyfriend before we shared a bed that I still did this and he rolled his eyes a bit. I don't really tell to many people about it IRL so that's what makes it a guilty pleasure. I also have a couple other horse plushes on the bed with me, and a giraffe.

That's really about it. It's actually a harder topic than I thought once I started writing. There's a ton of things I know are pretty lame, but I'm not ashamed of them. I'm not really ashamed of these either, but they can cause for some embarassing (and have in the past).

The Joltess... who is going to go to bed now, with Rex.

WANTED: NERDS AND THEIR NERD-CRAP

Hidely-ho Blogarinos!

To those who haven't run away screaming bloody murder, allow me to explain:

SOHB Contributor The Joltess came to me with a clever little idea, and since it was such a brilliant and delightful concept--and because I owe her big time, I happily accepted.

Dearest nerds---send us pictures of yourself with your favorite geekified items: Toys, action figures, collectibles, books, DVDs, ancient artifacts, rubber novelty items, classified alien technology--whatever turns your crank. I chose my Dune books(Frank Herbert's original six--the only ones that matter), and for a lark I added my beloved Abe Sapien beanie($5 from a very nice woman who runs a coffee shop in Waukegan. It was hanging up as a decoration--she had no idea what it was or its signifigance).

These pics will be given their own gallery page when I have enough, but keep in mind, this isn't a contest--every one who sends in a picture will have a spot on the Gallery(I don't have enough readers yet to be picky--besides, I've got no prizes for the winners) Send pics to scooteratreides@gmail.com.

Some of you might be wondering why I look like I'm being sodomized with a fireplace poker in my picture: Well, it's like this--I'm incapable of taking a good picture. Apparently I did something dreadful to the entire camera poulation in a past life or something--but no photograph ever taken of me has ever come out right. So, I beat the blasted machine at its own game! Before the camera has a chance to ruin my appearance, I ruin it myself first!

Alrighty, get to steppin' geeks! Send in those pics!
