UPDATE: SNES Me Up is Winning!

I've managed to find myself a pristine copy of Unirally (Uniracers in other regions), and the box, the instruction manual (which is incredibly funny for its' time), and even the course maps poster are all in fantastic condition, and opening the package it came in reminded me of the first time I bought a copy of the game back in 1994, and, for other reasons apart from purchasing a great SNES game for $50 when the going rate for Super Nintendo games in Australia was either $99.95 or $120, was one of the greatest days of my life. After the jump, I'll mention my plans for the game, and beg you all to prove how much better you are at judging the quality of games than I am.


As mentioned in the original 'SNES Me Up' post (found here:http://scooteratreides.blogspot.com/2011/04/snes-me-up.html), I asked for recommendations of games I should be playing (of which you provided none) and I also asked if you'd like me to review them (which no one answered) so, in short, fuck you; I'm gonna review Unirally/racers, and you'll read it and, by God, you'll like it. (You won't.)
Anyway, I'm still open to suggestions, and if I get none, after the Unirally review I'll keep reviewing the worst SNES games I can find until you suggest something decent. (You won't; you'll ignore my reviews and forget I exist, and I'll be suicidal for a time, then discover joy in living an avant-garde life as the most ignored and marginalized man in history, using my pathetic life as a source of humor, because I'll find it hilarious that my life continues to get even worse than anyone could have ever envisioned!) Uh... I'm just going to find a corner and cry in it so as not to shame you with my tears....

Okay, I'm back, and happy, because I'm just bursting at the seams with crack-cocaine induced joy! But for reals, the Unirally review (henceforth I'll be referring to it as that, as it's the title of the PAL version which I'll be reviewing) should be up soon, and I'll try to bring something a little different to the table, as there are God knows how many sites dedicated to reviewing games from the golden era already. I hope you guys enjoy it, and I hope to hear from you regarding games I should take a look at. If that doesn't happen, then I'll review the games that had the biggest impact on me personally, and why, maybe due to where I was at that point in my life or some such other reason beyond just the quality of the game.

SNES Me Up.

Hello all. I'm gonna jump right in, go out on a limb and say it: The SNES era is the pinnacle of gaming. I've loved no other console, before or since, like I loved my SNES. While my peers were doing what teenagers are supposed to do, I was locked away in my bedroom having the time of my life (insert masturbation joke here.) While they were dating, I was throwing the Foot at Shredder in TMNT: Turtles In Time. While they were learning how to drive, I was learning how to beat Goldie in Unirally (or Uniracers, as it was known outside Australia.) And while they were flipping burgers for minimum wage at McDonald's, I was raking in the big bucks in Sim City.
Of course, gaming progressed, and I with it, buying the original PlayStation, then it's younger brother, before moving on to the Xbox 360. But my love for the SNES never abated, and thanks to the wonders of emulation, I was able to not only relive my favorite gaming moments, (FYI,, my favorite SNES game, which is also my favorite game of all time, is Secret of Evermore.) but because we didn't have a lot of money when I was a kid, I was also able to play all the games I'd read about but could never afford.
Anyway, the purpose of this post is to ask for some recommendations. I've played through pretty much every game I wanted to, so I'm asking you to let me know of any relatively obscure SNES games that are worth checking out. I've done pretty much all the RPG's, and every available scrolling beat 'em up, so I'm looking for games that are 'pick up & play', i.e no obscure Japan-only titles, just games that are good, old fashioned fun. I'm interested to see what you guys can come up with, and if you'd like me to, I'll write a review of each of the titles I pick based on your recommendations, so let me know what I should be playing in the comments.

Hi Boys and Girls!


No, the title doesn't mean I'm not going to continue trying(and failing)to bring you a new piece of awesome eye-candy each week, but I'm truly at a loss for how I can ever possibly top a Japanese dance troupe ripping off Janet Jackson while singing the praises of The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past. My God, just look at this buffet of wonderfulness (and could they have found a cuter girl to play Link? Honestly, Japan, you confuse me enough as it is.):





Japanese video game commercials tend to be weird even by Japan's standards, but WOW. I wish there were a way to properly express my feelings about this masterful achievement, but I'm struck dumb. So instead, I'll throw a bone to the patriotic crowd and show you the psychotic American advertisement for the original Legend Of Zelda which burned itself  irrevocably into my memory back in '88 and made acquiring the game an obsession, even though the ad itself tells you little or nothing about the actual game. All I could gather is I'm looking for someone or something called Zelda, and I'll be surrounded by things like Octoroks, Tektites, and Leevers which I should be scared shitless of.
